I want to access a directory on my pc

OP is specifically talking about what is venturing more into the server side than anything else
Microsoft 365 can remain forever blissfully unaware of the fact that the data warehouse is not MS at all, plenty of "MS shops" run something else in the backend, mostly AWS
You're smoking some really good crack https://www.microsoft.com/en-za/microsoft-fabric. Just face the facts, admit you're wrong and move on dear lord.

The amount of hoops I had to jump through to properly disable windows defender a while back was crazy. I understand having safeguards in place, but if I disable defender and even do some regedit to disable it and it still runs in the background preventing me from installing something...

Previous windows felt a lot more: "Sure - this is a bad idea but if you want to do it go ahead."
You can create an exclusion folder and install or run anything from that folder, won't trigger by defender. You need local Admin on the PC though, which if it's yours won't be a problem.

The whole business world runs on Microsoft 365. Good luck switching to an alternative lol. Linux and Android users always cracks me up.
True, although many smaller companies use Slack especially in companies that do development.

For me I would rather use 365 than Slack it is so kak. My last company used Mattermost which is far superior to both from customising it, usability, alerts, calls, calendar, tracking work weeks etc. Now I am back to being stuck on 365.

Linux is awesome especially to use as a work PC, there is just so much you can do to increase productivity and you can run a VM for the all the Windows stuff. Very quickly you find that the thing you NEED Windows for there are like 50 free light weight alternatives that do a better job.

Because I am forced by my new company I have to use Windows and I literally start my work windows machine boot up Mint in a VM full screen it and use that for 95% of my work. I just get a worse experience now.
