Big change for South African cities with the most expensive electricity

Electricity tariffs in the City of Cape Town will become far more affordable relative to those of other major municipalities from 1 July 2026.

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) recently announced it had completed the approval of electricity tariff adjustment applications of all municipal and private electricity distributors.

Surprised Dirtbin is so low on the list especially considering that it is run by a bunch of morons who couldn't organize a piss up in a brewery even if someone else paid for it. EDIT: I see the DA still thinks it's 'Robin Hood' with their specifications, stealing from those that work hard for their money to give to the 'sick lame and lazy' brigade.

Adding George in the table will show it to be one the most expensive,
coming in at 4th most expensive, almost 3rd.

The maths:

On a George prepaid meter 656kWh = R2257.
Increase = 7.88% , new price 656kWh = R2434

A 50A fixed charge = R495.
Increase = 7.88% , new price 50A = R534

New Monthly total 1 July = R2968
(a 60A basic will be more, taking it over R3000

This will be 4th place, above East Rand (and almost same as Nelson Mandela Bay in 3rd)

No mention of the electricity levy which the City is milking us.
