When André de Ruyter was CEO, Eskom shut down a tender review panel

Electricity minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said the cutting of a key review panel at Eskom in late 2022 allowed tender corruption, including an allegedly dodgy R21-billion diesel contract.

This was while André de Ruyter was still CEO of the state-owned power utility. De Ruyter is known for his strong anti-corruption stance, to the extent that he became a whistleblower.

De Ruyter probably wanted to oversee everything himself, chase criminals from the cartels at night, oversee the tenders, write a best selling book, find sophisticated devices, no wonder he was drinking dodgy concoctions to boost his energy, it must have been draining.

The panel was probably in their (read as corrupt politicians) pockets and didn't 'find' anything for years so was just another waste for SA tax payers for decades like all these commissions. It would have made sense to dismantle it.

“This continued reduction demonstrates both the cost savings and the operational improvements achieved through Eskom’s ongoing turnaround efforts,”
Ongoing. Since 2000.

Bwaha, as if there wasn't corruption before this in Eskom or under Ramokgopa. Some idiots just don't know when to shut up!

It doesn't really seem like the tender review panel were doing a decent job. Corruption was already rife in Eskom by 2022.

Shutting it down completely though seems absolutely insane. Rather reform it and put people in there that can do the job. Eskom tenders clearly need oversight. The way they just burn through money needlessly is incredible.

Does the minister have any comment about only having half a board at the time?
