Gauteng plans to install average speed over distance cameras on e-toll gantries

Has anybody ever received a fine from an average speed camera? A while back I asked a bunch of people at work that travel the N3 regularly and nobody has received or know of a person that was fined in this way.

No, though there is one on Fields hill, and i regularly see people fly up and down there at well over 140kph, though pretty much all of them also use the turn offs on the road before the second camera, so they do not get a fine. I suspect those cameras only get used on an irregular basis, because the processing costs money, so they will leave them off till motorists speed, then do a batch of trapping, and off once the first fines get paid.

Before they spend a whole lot of our money on this, they should do a study to see how feasible it is for someone to maintain a high average speed over distance on the N1.

My dad, twice. Granted this was on the N2 around Sir Lowry's Pass, and another at Houw Hoek.

This is great if they can guarantee there won't be laser traps hidden. Cause then one can simply speed like crazy in between the average speed camera and just before the next one you stop. Have a coffee, make some phone calls, and then go through the next one when your average is down...

You're not a regular on the roads in question I assume?

Why not just pocket the money, don't install the cameras and then let the roads deteriorate with potholes, then people can't speed, and you can also pocket the money from the roads not being maintained.

I wonder if the ANC is hiring.

WOW - Just did some homework and here are a few things I didn't know:-
1) Those e-toll gantries are worth a fortune
2) The copper wires inside are worth a fortune
3) The cameras are worth a fortune
4) The proposed cameras are worth even more
5) They would make building a house instead of roof trusses excellent

The gantries would be sold for scrap metal, and then that will be used to buy corrugated sheet and cheap wood, to build a shack with instead.

more worthless plans and excuses for something that should have been done long ago,
probably spent it on bentley paint of something, corruption is endemic to them at this stage.

I have had the same discussion with friends and colleagues and not a single person I know has ever received a fine from an average speed camera. It is a joke.
