Gr.11 learner who has never been on a flight part of SA team competing in NASA competition

Zayaan Abdurahman, a Grade 11 learner at Mondale High School in Mitchells Plain, is one of a seven-member team that will compete in an international event at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in July.

Abdurahman was selected to represent South Africa in the International Space Settlement Design Competition. It will be the first time an African country is represented at the international finals.

wtf is that presentation. Eish. They going to pitch ideas to NASA. There are so many errors.

If they want to do well in this then it may be worthwhile for them to take a breath and consider what the client (NASA) actually wants. NASA follows a systems engineering approach - they basically wrote the book on it. After an RFP is received and a team has been formed, the team should first do a requirements analysis including a requirements traceability matrix, which would involve a bit of further interaction with NASA. Then on to concept of operations development and then on to the concept development.

The proposal looks like it may have glossed over some of this and may not be ideally aligned with the way the client thinks.

Probably describes 80% of SA children
In 1982 when I was 19 years old, I experienced my first flight, which was on a Flossie on my way to Ondangwa for my first three-month border duty stint. Flying in a Flossie was my only flying experience up till 2008 at an age of 45 when I was flown to Germany and the UK by my employer for training on a very specialized piece of equipment.

My wife's first flying experience was when we flew down to Cape town from Johannesburg for our 21st wedding anniversary. She was 41 years old.
