AARTO national rollout starting in two weeks

If all goes according to plan, South Africa will begin the national rollout of a new dispensation in about two weeks that will fundamentally change the country's decades-old traffic fine system.

Outside of two municipalities in Gauteng, traffic fines in South Africa have been handled in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Act (CPA) since 1977.

The big change will be in the handling of less serious violations, such as failing to stop at a traffic light or a stop sign.
How are these less serious? This is a joke. Let's see how it goes down with there still likely being some constitutional challenges.

This is not LESS SERIOUS you utter morons.

Every ANC'er in Johannesburg has decided these are no longer important because you idiots fail to police it and people are getting killed and maimed as a result.

its less serious because they drive in blue light convoys so just drive through traffic light or stop and no experience as to how life threatening doing this can be.
Maybe they see most of the Taxis doing it and getting away with it and therefore say its not serious

If anyone honestly believes this will be rolled out in 2 weeks time and not be delayed again then they need to have their heads read. The City of Cape Town has categorically said they will not be implementing AARTO.

If you look at the schedule of offences it's almost as if it's top-down. That or it's designed to make the most money from those most easily policed. But we all know that will never be the case. :whistling:

The Department of Transport can't even fix the drivers license card problems, how the hell are they ever going to be able to launch and administer something as complex as AARTO?

AARTO have implemented a partnership deal with the SAPO to deliver the 'infringement notices' to errant motorists via 'registered mail'... :p

I keep getting a reminder that I have a fine actually delivered to my house, but I must go to Westgate post office to collect it, Westgate is 11km away from me, that is the closest post office, the fine has been paid since September last year.

The Post Office stopped delivering mail to our area about 2 years ago now already and just told everyone that if they want their mail they must come collect it at our nearest post office depo which is 15km away from us.

We get the occasional mail drop, but I mean someone sent me something in 2023, it arrived in 2025

Actually tried to pay my two fines; one is years old, don't know where it came from, the other was fraud. Done recently just to get rid of the nuisance value, via Standard Bank's notify system - both got stuck :-/
