Counterfeit Mecer products being sold on South Africa's Temu

Merchants on the Chinese e-commerce platform Temu listed counterfeit goods featuring several prominent South African brands, including items bearing the Mecer logo.

Four products came up when searching “Mecer” on Temu: a newsboy cap, a belt buckle, a T-shirt, and a collapsible canvas container. Mustek confirmed that the products were knock-offs.

Temu (Merchant from the east) is using the below definition to justify the use of Mercer:

Temu have been using the term mercer (merchant) for a very long time in the context of luxury textiles.

Mustek does not own / have a copyright on the word "mercer".
You can't own / copyright an existing English world.
Mustek probably has a trademark on "Mercer" in the context of computers.
This trademark does not extend to other areas such as food, fuel, healthcare, finance, education, clothing, etc.

Nothing to see here - plenty of fake Adidas World Cup branded clothing on sale at the street corner.

It’s Mecer, not Mercer.

Did the AI right this for you??

Because it’s not even remotely close to the topic at hand.
