Was a nightmare. But sorted now, new geyser. People in Russia always shrugged when I told them our geysers are mostly up top.
Theirs are predominantly gas ones in the kitchen. Much better imo, especially since you can keep an eye on them.
 
If you have insurance, just get it changed out asap. The longer you wait the more opportunity an insurance company can say, "oh you knew about this problem and did nothing... ummm nah we're not going to pay" Your geyser will be changed 100%, its rusted and finished.

They will replace your geyser with the same literage, any bigger or a different style like solar then you pay... the insurance company will just give you the money and you sort it out with your plumber.

A solar geyser is about +R20k but if you live in a nice sunny place with good sun on your roof then it's a win win. Just don't get a hobo shack one with the geyser on the outside of your roof... just have the tubes on the outside.

Similar thing happened to me about 2 or so months after we fitted Solar panels.

Submitted a "burst geyser" claim to Insurance (with pics), they approved a new (Kwikot 200l, 4kw) geyser, I asked them if I could pay for a 2kw element to be retrofitted (by their plumber) in the new geyser, which they approved.
Best decision ever.
 
Turns out geyser still under warranty and being replaced by Ariston..

Their designated plumber showed up with a bakkie full of Ariston geysers.. They do nothing but warranty replacement of Ariston geysers, Monday to Friday, 9-5..

If you are shopping for a geyser, Ariston is not the way to go..

Huh, I'm getting the opposite from this. You're having it replaced free under warranty, no insurance hit? Even though you never checked or replaced the wear item, the sacrificial anode? Seems generous to me.

I was referring to the fact that these units don't appear to last very long at all if they have a plumber dedicated to replacing them all day, every day..

Kwikot also does not care about the sacrificial anode, and replaces their geysers still under warranty regardless of the anode having been replaced or not..

It's only an insurance hit if there is consequential damage (like your whole house gets flooded). IMO the risks are too high to take a chance on a cheap geyser. I'm the caretaker in a block of 36 apartments, and seen exactly what water damage can do.

Sure because the anode it's sold with should be sized to last at least as long as the warranty. So maybe Ariston falls short there, who knows.

Thing is you can make a geyser last basically as long as you like if you just keep corrosion under control. And that's mostly a matter of checking and replacing your anode.

If your anode is burning through too fast it's not the geyser's fault, it's a water quality issue (e.g. high chlorides).
