Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 6

Any known issues or maintenance in the Stellenberg area in cpt? Completely dead and zero lights on CPE except power on a restart?

Probably should have also said Vuma Trenches

HI there, thanks for reaching out.
I'm not seeing anything on Vumas end in this regard, would you mind logging a ticket?
It could be that they are not aware of an outage as yet, but our team will report it through once they get more details from you.

Hour 16 of no Fibre.

Apparently I have a girlfriend? And she requires attention when there is no YouTube? Since when?!
I see on your Vuma ticket, they have shceduled a tech to go out today- No Time Specified, please be on the lookout :)

Yeah the negotiation issue is not normal . Usually its a faulty Cable, but I see you have replaced it already. It could possibly be on the ONT Port side, which our team would take up with MFN to check.

No need to reboot to get a new IP, you can just re-dial the PPPoE session and you should get a public IP most of the time.
Not winning with that they say i must change cable and also my router is 10G so thats not the case please push again

Unfortunately I can't escalate/push from my side, as this is still within MFN's SLA, I will however follow up internally
Please do share screenshots of the LAN negotiation on the WAN side when the issue occurs again as well. Many thanks

Anyone else seeing high packet loss from Durban to hosts peering at NAP Durban? No loss to Joburg and upstream.

100.97.22.3 apears to the problem - problem appears to occur in the evening for the past couple of nights
So feedback on this was peering in KZN was saturating. Reason for this is that Akamai is basically falling over with the soccer world cup. So they start sending traffic from all over the place. Basically a 600% spike in traffic on that exchange. Last night we didnt saturate but we have put in the upgrade request to 100G, should be done early next week to avoid this going forward.

Akamai has majorly underestimated the traffic levels for the event. So at peak we are actually using international capacity for DSTV streams.

So Vuma techs rocked up just after 4pm... busy busy!

Always gives me a good chuckle when the techs see how i use POE to power those raycore devices and go "wut"
Turns out my CPE had given up the ghost after many many TB of traffic!
but wham bam, chucked in a new one and i'm back online!
I'm sad that it wasn't a replacement to get 1gbps+ (cough cough @PBCool 👀 )
but i digress! Thank you @CoolEscalator and please give thanks to Karabo and Nhlanhla from the support team for their stellar support!

Great to hear, clever so just passive PoE injector and splitter?

Exactly that... I have loads of them laying around from the old WUG days and all the mikrotik outdoor routerboards.
I would just use my Unifi poe switch, but the splitter on the other end isn't the same standard for what wire push the power or something like that... and i've just been too lazy to research it more when i have something that works already

Myself and @rodent were core and board members for Jawug for a while. I ran (BP) (TF) and helped (BJU)

Were you ptawug or jawug?

ctwug :) Was very close to a couple of the board on this side...

Really cool community back before fiber was attainable! but yeah, fiber 100% killed wugs... Used to have a huge 6m pole up on my roof... But after it came down in a storm, broke a few roof tiles and i had fiber, i decided it was time to call it a day there.

CTWug was the most successful because of the topology, big ass bowl. PTA was also really well setup for a WUG

We sponsored NLD capacity with the intention of linking the WUGs up, as Jawug PTAWug did link up eventually.

Apple TV streaming has ground to a halt. Nothing streams, across all devices after a restart. Openserve JHB.
