Emfuleni municipality wants to add extra fee for home solar users

The embattled Emfuleni Local Municipality plans to introduce an application fee and a monthly levy for homes with solar power installations.

Located in the heart of the Vaal triangle in southern Gauteng, Emfuleni's area of governance includes Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark, Boipatong, Evaton, Sebokeng, and Sharpeville.

"Senekal said that residents will have an opportunity to oppose the application fee and levy during a public participation process, which is expected to open in the near future."

As if, somehow, in some universe there might be a "public consultation" event where people would be like:
"I just paid tens of thousands to provide energy these lovely c**nts can't deliver, so I think it's just fair that I pay the difference into a black pit"

A f**ing insulting humiliation ritual is all this is.

Senekal highlighted that the plan followed the municipality’s handing over of electricity distribution and revenue collection to Eskom in 2023.
Something not adding up. If Eskom is directly handling distribution and revenue collection how does the muni justify a registration fee and a monthly levy?

If revenue isn't matching, then you increase rates as normal, energy shouldn't be seen as a revenue/profit source.

Give job

Emfuleni is among a plethora of municipalities formally classified as bankrupt.
Why should one pay rates to a bankrupt municipality? Isnt this where you form your own suburb account and pay that instead and just look after yourselves?
