MyBB Motorcycle Owners Thread (2nd gear)

Still haven't, but here's a shot from a local viewpoint
The random fire hydrant adds a nice touch.

I don't think the rear set up is too bad, my BMW doesn't even have a tail light. But I can't help but think your tank needs some deep enamel paint and an applied harmonica-style badge rather than the matt finish and decal.

Eh, I did say it hadn't been anywhere photo-worthy yet. Random hydrants are just what you deal with when trying to avoid the cars parked off to the other side.

Believe it or not, there are no decals on this thing; that tank badge is 3d, metal, and like anything else in Triumph's parts catalogue, way more expensive than you'd expect. Even the little side cover has the model name painted on. They're actually kind of weirdly anal like that; there's no way anyone would buy these things for what they're charging otherwise.

I'd actually kind of like to go with a 2-tone bright enamel tank, maybe with a Chromalusion finish. Motone's white and gold show bike is also pretty nice.

Alternatively, maybe a full-on 60s panel van style wizard fighting a dragon. :sneaky:

Thanks to all for the input. Ended up going for a brand called ASMAX. Somewhere in the middle of cheap and premium. Speakers fit perfectly into the helmet recess. Controls can be difficult to feel(buttons vs dial) but voice commands work relatively well. Battery lasts for ages. Rider to pillion connects up consistently. Sound is good enough to still hear fine with earplugs in. Overall does the intended job.

Speaking of ear plugs, flight plugs are a revelation for me. So much more pleasant than those squishy things.
After almost a year of using this(just summer time), I’ve come to the decision that I’ve wasted money being cheap.
Should have got the Cardo.

They’ll connect to a group flawlessly for ages and then just decide not to and then it’ll take 15 minutes of “what the eff is going on here” to get connected.
Then it will lower the nav voice volume because of road noise thinking someone is talking. Since I don’t have a quad lock system and navigate purely through voice I’m making a lot of u-turns. Annoying. Mostly does what it should but these little things are annoying.

Just get a good Cardo set.

Anyone done the headlight flasher/gate remote mod? Thinking of doing as I have had 2 remotes get very wet this year (on the key chain) and die

It is very simple to wire a remote into bike. I have had that on all my bikes.
I took a remote, programmed it to my garage door, solders the button in an 'On' position. Earth the remote negative to the bike and connect the positive to the flasher/brights on the bike (mine is connected to a seperate push switch)
Most remotes are 9V, but I am using the blue nova remote which is a 12V

Thanks, also using the blue nova remotes. I see 2 options, the first like you have done, permanently on and the second wired to the trigger on the remote. Still investigating the second as one bike needs gate and garage

Yeah until you join a group of people with only Cardo’s and they also struggle for 15min to get it working…when it worked just fine the entire day before.

These things are all just a bit kak really.

Why not get rid of the remote entirely?

My gate and garage door open based on my phone’s GPS and the alarm turns itself off if turned on.

Noted. Being fully kitted in the boiling heat makes those 15 minutes quite unpleasant.

Did a trip with him and others to Katse Dam somewhere 2004-ish (?) where we slept over and rode snotty roads in the rain at ludicrous speeds the next day. That night he eyed my lady and she played along, making him buy several bottles of the most expensive red wine in the house, Fun guy to have around is my recall.

Would it be coded on insurance? Might be hard to move on when the time comes.
Feel like he's finding that out. Bit disappointing if he doesn't note it on the ad.

Was also tempted by the R1, but that thing seemed to be giving problems even after it was "finished"... couple of references to it cutting out, needing to pick it up, etc. Used sportsbikes; not even once.
