Rumours are that the program is now hardcapped at 17500 with roughly a third already over. They are supposed to become a lot more selective with the current and new applicants and will be looking deeper into "persecution" claims.

Some of the interviews last up to 3 hours. People have been called back twice, even 3 times for follow up interviews on separate dates. Each time this information is relayed to various Intel departments for closer examination and investigation. A guy I know was quizzed about an unpaid traffic fine from the 1980's. That fine doesn't even exist on the traffic department system, he checked.

I'm not sure how much more selective it can be.

US farmer faces legal pushback for paying white SA workers higher wages

A Mississippi farmer who paid higher wages and favoured white South African guest workers has been taken to court by five black American workers alleging a pattern of racial and citizenship-based discrimination and “wage theft”.

US citizens Michael Anthony Nash, Jimmy Shaw, Vinnie Cason, Grant Lewis and Charleston Taurvonta Harris with the support of the Mississippi Centre for Justice (MCJ) and the Southern Migrant Legal Services filed a federal lawsuit in Greenville, Mississippi, in May against Gregory Carr, farm owner and manager of Carr Farms, headquartered in Schlater, a small town in Leflore county and a producer of rice and soybeans.

Why would an employer pay more than what's necessary? I thought they said Americans dont work on farms anyway. They need immigrants to do these jobs. Now Americans are complaining. Make it make sense.

This lawsuit was filed on 15 May 2025, the first 'refugees' arrived on 12 May 2025 so this predates the 'refugees', article also mentions H-2A visa workers which does not apply to the 'refugees'.

I was chatting to a guy who was approved, and has now moved, I think. He applied in June 2025, and I think less than a year is very quick. I have to wonder about the "persecuted" part though; he was a part business owner, living in a townhouse in the West Rand. His father has remained behind to run the business.

Haha she's still stuck back at BEE is designed to correct historical injustices station. My dear you have at least 20 years catching up to do.

Also, the US refugee law is separate from UN refugee law and DOES classify minority groups in SA as refugees.

This poor lady has been in the US for too long and has zero clue about anything other than what CNN tell her.

You could kick every single white person out of their jobs today and replace with black people and it would not put a dent in South Africa's unemployment rate.

Stop using CNN to think for you .

Fear of future persecution is central to refugee protection. Refugee status is generally not based on a person’s economic standing or social status, but on persecution, or a well-founded fear of persecution, connected to a protected characteristic or ground. In this instance, the claim is based on an immutable characteristic aka race and on the South African government being unwilling or unable to provide protection from harm and threats of violence connected to that characteristic.
