I had this conversation with myself the other day when our 40" Samsung packed up. Ended up getting it repaired instead. Nothing else ticked all the boxes.

Save your money and DON'T buy a smart TV - just get a media box. The processors on most "smart" TV's are so pathetic you will end up getting a media box in any event!
If it wasn't for the various media boxes we have, I would have tossed my TCL out the window years ago.

I won't buy a "TV" again. Haven't had one for ages. "Smart panel" i.e. large monitor is the way. Along with some form of set top box instead of the built in "Smart" function on the devices. Each TV manufacture bakes their own Android thing and it usually is a pain because it doesn't support all the apps you want to use properly and and and. (Maybe on like the 100k devices it's better)

Yes agreed mostly, but until the dstv app no longer works on the mi box as it deems it an unsupported device all of a sudden.

This is great advice. Not only about processing power but the android version if it's a smart android tv eventually gets old because the manufacturer doesn't support it forever.

Get the best tv with the best panel but no smart features. Get a proper android tv box or and apple tv and you are sorted.

This bloke was rather vocal about Samsung

One of the reasons I went with TCL, is for Google TV ... way better than the proprietary crap from LG and Samsung

I'll probably keep buying LG OLEDs, not that I need any more of those right now

I've had very good after-sales support with the local LG support guys, so as long as they keep me happy I'll keep buying their TVs.

Who here has used TCL?

Never seen Skyworth

the Skyworth hardware is kind of the same quality as Hisense but it is better IMHO because it uses Google TV instead of the horrid VIDAA O/S that Hisense make use of - so its far more user friendly with a wider variety of compatibility and usable smart features

the TCL TVs i have seen seem kind of seem similar to the other two on the surface but i haven't owned or used one so i cant actually accurately compare them - the Samsungs used to be my favorite for long while BUT nowadays my buddies who sell those say that the reliability issues have become as bad as all the other brands and the current Samsungs are not the bulletproof unbreakable monsters we used to get in the past

Sony always if there's stock etc but they're not always easy to find. Second choice prob TCL.
