Shooting down a drone in South Africa could land you in jail

Instead of shooting down the drone and getting ten years in prison, go and kill the guy flying it. This will be a weekend in prison and R500 bail.

If you have a license to fly a drone in SA, you will know its virtually impossible to legally fly a drone over a built up residential area - so if a drone is found flying in neighbourhoods or over your local beach, its most likely a rogue drone. Unless a NOTAMN says otherwise.

Plenty ways to down a drone. Other than discharging a firearm. And the rogue flyer isnt going to know what hit them.

Why so cryptic?
 
I wish they would try and prosecute someone for this. It would expose the idiotic laws in SA that deems a drone an aircraft. The law requires a drone owner to have a CAA licence if you use it commercially. Therefore, if you share footage on youtube and you earn a few cents, you technically need a licence that is not much different from private pilot license. That is all good if you are a land surveyor or photographer who use it full time, but not if you want to use your R20k drone once month to take a few pictures of your building site.
