I bought a TCL Mini-LED set a few months ago and I am very happy with the performance so far. Enjoying the World Cup on it. Great for watching sports and it has a Sports Mode setting which optimizes the TV for live sports.

It is a Google TV and I have tested it with Plex and large movie files and it just works.

MiniLED would have been a step too far for my budget so i stuck to the cheapest TV i could find in the size and features i wanted - BUT this must have a great picture quality because i think that the MiniLED backlight spread is far better so the extreme ends of the color spectrum should be more prominent (ie mainly saying whiter whites and blacker blacks .... closer to OLED picture quality than regular QLED would be 😉) ..... enjoy

Out of all the TV's I've ever had, the Samsungs have been the most disappointing by far. The diffuser caps start falling off on one so you get bright spots on the screen. Never had this with any other TV before or since - worst is, it wasn't that old either. The software is horrendous and when you compare it to an LG or TCL, it just looks inferior.

4k costs a lot, you really think local games would be able to afford the equipment? Not every match is 4k, plus people already moan DSTV is expensive, now you want them to pay more for rights?

Uhh did you miss the part where I said we already had it and have done it before?

See here :
Cameras: Wired for 30 (fitted with 16x Sony 3500, 4x Sony 5500, 2x Sony 4800, 2x Sony 3500 integrated Vislink RF and 4x QX Qball)

I pay over R1k for premium on an Explora, I think they can afford to start with some 4K content. Even if it's just local, can't imagine the rights cost much for local 4K.

That is an OB truck, it can handle 4k, not sure how that relates to the stadiums and their equipment. This would just roll up and hook up to the stadiums cameras.
But yeah they should send some local 4k content

Who here has used TCL?

Never seen Skyworth
More people than what they think. TCL makes panels for LG (they actually bought LGs LED factory) and TCL and Sony has a joint venture. Etc etc. TCL is gigantic even though a lot of people haven't heard from them before.

Skyworth, LG, or Samsung, but I could only vote for one, so I opted for LG.

And have you seen anymore games sent out in 4k since this vehicle appeared? I mean they did some Rugby in 2023 with it, but even then it was some.
So they got a 4k capable OB truck, but no 4k content. Wonder if they sold this all off once Canal took over.

Truck was done in May '23 and first local 4K broadcast was the SA20 final Feb '24 I believe.

I don't believe any rugby has even been broadcast in 4K in SA, they voiced intentions for the 2023 RWC (long prior to Canal+) and did not pay for the 4K rights - same thing with the 2024 Olympics.

Ah well. All 12 of us who pay for Premium will continue being disappointed.

LG's WebOS is quite good. Mine still works good, after 8 years, and still received a software update for it like in last year. Not sluggish, still starts up like new, Netflix app still works on it.

Not sure about Samsung's software, but each to his own.

After having had 4 Hisense's I found I secretly ****ing hated Vidaa.

So, my next TV will be A 4K TCL running Google TV.

Why TCL? Because these okes release a new TV every second day. And they aren't scared of throwing the latest technology at you.

Why a Google TV? I'm a tech junky and not only does this let your TV become your entertainment oracle, it natively becomes the centre of your smart home as well.

"Hey, Google, play me the latest episode of XYZ" is all it takes. The OS aggregates all your content in one place, irrespective of which platform your show runs from, so no need to state "from Netflix" or "from Prime".

On the smart home front, if you have smart devices which are interfaced with Google Home, it's already on the Google ecosystem. So while you're kicking off your shoes a scene in your automation gets triggered which dims your downlights if it's past sunset, or closes your curtains or blinds if it's daytime.
