Plan for R14-per-litre petrol and diesel in South Africa

The Department of Minerals and Petroleum Resources' Annual Performance Plan for 2026/27 has revealed that the review of South Africa's fuel price formula will proceed.

This comes after the department's minister, Gwede Mantashe, said in October 2024 that motorists in the country should be paying around R14 per litre of fuel.

My chances to win the lotto is better? Or wait, I'm Going to win it.... And if they do it, won't the finance minister fight it? He's the one that lift the levy and fuel taxes, right?

No more private schools for the Cadres !! might also have to driver Fords instead of X5's now !

Shammmpppieees

No change expected, why because hell has not frozen over yet.

This will just fizzle away and nothing more be said about it after the elections.

Can Mybroadband please stop plastering this idiot over articles - it triggers uncontrolled vomiting and diarrhea in the majority of the population with IQ's over 4!

I can't wait to see what they come up with. We all know fuel prices aren't coming down. I'd just like to see the mental gymnastics. Almost worth the colossal waste of taxpayer money about to unfold.

You either tax the s**t out of it or you don't... there is no such thing as a "reformulation".
The wolf is bleating so the sheep don't run.

Been on the cards since forever.

Elections on the way.

If they lose the control of the government they will be the first to complain about the taxes and levy's

Fvck off and reduce your pocket money.

You'll be waiting many decades.

Uncle Gweezy is operating at his usual pace, so this will take another 10 years at least before any actual discussion or proposal is even begun, let alone completed.

“So, instead of buying a litre of fuel for R14, you buy it for R20. Our argument is: you are distorting the price of fuel. Let’s find the formula to separate these things and have the price of fuel visible,” he said.
So wait, the price at the pump will show R14, and somehow a separate fuel tax will be added afterwards to match up to R20?

Pretty much how many US states work. Oh that's $5 but at checkout, they add sales tax

and once again there is that magic word again "plan" doing the heavy lifting in the article

This will never happen.

Petrol in SA will never be R14/L

Ever.

I have 3rd party insurance including an amount of R10 million should I injure myself or anyone else.

Scrap the RAF. This will bring the cost of living down.

We only have RAF for the taxis thats the cause of more than 52% of RAF Claims, with 20% also being pedestrian related yet 90% of pedestrian deaths are taxi related. So generally 70% of all Road Accidents are due to taxis. Let them either have insurance or not be on the road at all.
