The cheapest beef burger in South Africa – Steers vs Spur vs McDonald’s vs Wimpy vs RocoMamas

Before anyone pops up. Yes they are all 100% beef... but they don't say from where the beef came from

Yeah BS
Wimpy Quickbite burger patty is 50g
McDonalds burger patty is 45g
King Steers burger patty 100g
Spur Burger patty 160g double burger is 2x 100g patties.
Rocomammas patty is 150g

How difficult is that? Then you could do a proper comparison and do a proper article compared to the halfarsed crap.

What do you mean by this?
there has to be an explanation as to how MCD is able to sell burgers well under cost price,
this is one idea of mine, that they pay for ingredients in US dollars and take advantage to the currency difference to make a profit.

but then again I don't know, maybe they making money from Coke sales and property and rentals rather than food.
that's how they can keep prices ridiculously low, well below cost price of everybody else.

It is called economies of scale.

Geez, do you have no business/common sense?

Firstly a McD burger patty is 45g meat, Spur is 160g meat. So there is a big part of the price difference already.
A Standard McD burger does not even have tomato or lettuce on it, that all cost money. The burger bun is way smaller too with no sesame seeds. Also no chips or onion rings.
It is also served in a big fancy restaurant with comfortable seats and nice atmosphere. That cost money. It is served to you in a proper plate with knife and fork and all of those you have to pay people to clean it again.

They should consider which burger actually contains "beef". While technically semantically most of those burgers contains "beef", it is actually trimmings, aka conveyor scrapings. The standard ratio is 80/20 trimmings/fat. That is also where the legal compliance ends as far as ZA is concerned. Let me upsell you 2 side facts with that: there are 4 tiers of "beef" in ZA, and local suppliers supply tier 4 "economy class" which is 35% "meat" to stores, sold as "premium" which most international legally require. Also MSG, MSM, and Sodium Sulphates are legal ingredients in ZA. Stick those "beef" burgers in your mouth at your own peril. I only buy from Rocomamas.

Woolworths at home for me thank you. Rocomamas has served me too many medium patties over the years, an absolute no-no when it comes to ground beef.

so why cant the local boys compete with them? Spur/Roco's is almost as big
They don't have the purchasing power

Just as an example MC'ds will order many many tons of burgers from the local suppliers, with just in time constant deliveries as part of the supply contract, that means the seller has pretty much guaranteed business for the foreseeable future, which will translate to a very good price.

Whereas smaller chains will order less volumes less frequently often from more localized suppliers.
