3d Printers South Africa

Are there OTHER issues to worry about? Yep... the USA is trying to legislate that every manufacturing device (additive - printers, subtractive - lathes, cncs) have a "remote cutoff switch" and a process that runs EVERYTHING they do through an AI model to determine if "yOu'Re TrYiNg tO pRiNt a gUn pArT" ... flip man. What a world we live in.

Spot on.
I can't stand the US right now, their legislature and financially compromised oligarhcy rule is currently a much bigger threat to this hobby than anything else.

And I am once again fashionably late to this party. I have lived 46.5 years without a 3d printer, but have now developed an itch for one. According to Google Gemini, the Creality Ender3 V3 KE is the correct fit for me in terms of budget, stupid-friendly and quality. Incredible Corruption has it for R5500. Why should I buy it or why should I not. I do not have R5500 lying around looking for purpose, but will be able to squeeze to make it work if needed. Additional context, I have a grade 2 pupil in my home who seems to think that it will be a cool addition to the surroundings.
That will work, but I think you can also save a buck or 2 and get the Ender V3 SE (sometimes on special for R3499) for a first printer.

See if you like 3d printing and go from there. If you don't like it, you didn't waste too much money and can probably sell it for not much less. If you do like it, you are unlikely to stop at that first printer.

Don't say that, I don't want another printer... I'm perfectly happy with just the one and would never consider getting another one so I can load up more parts for complex Dino builds so I can at least still print while waiting for 7+ hour prints to finish.... something like an A1 Mini as an extra printer would not suit me at all...

I'm busy trying to convince myself that I must save money and that I don't need this. Would like the heated chamber for ABS (and non warping petg), and the multi colour/material features.

The bambu offering is also about the same price. xD

The P1S price plummet due to the P2S release makes it a baller deal for someone who wants a coreXY.
If I didn't have the A1 already this would be a no brainer.

This is exactly what we did ~4 months ago. Both me and my 10yo wanted to give it a shot, and we could pick up an Ender-3 V3 SE using eBucks. I don't regret this approach as it was low risk, but now I am itching for an A1 mini

I am back, trigger pulled on the KE. Got convinced to take red and blue filament instead of the boring old black and white to start off by the little one. Now to have my last Teams call for the day and then to open that box.

Not sure if I mentioned - a big plus was that this machine is wifi enabled, so I don't need to force it into my cramped office space just yet.

Let's see how it goes. The N1 in Midrand is chaos, by the way.

We might have bought the same special. :) I'm also about 4 months in.

It was a good buy, in the beginning I just used PLA and printed random crap that I've downloaded. But I've slowly been learning CAD along the way, and have designed and printed tons of very useful custom things. Even if learning CAD is the only outcome it was worth it.

If I ever started a "print farm" I'd prob do a bunch of these. lol.

3D Printers have come so far! My P1S is also wi-fi enabled... I showed my wife how to use Bambu studio... and now I have to fight for print time. HAHAHA.

It's next level dopamine when you design and print something and see your thoughts become physical things that "do something"!

cos of issues with the V3 SE?

For sure. I've always been a tinkerer, but lost my mojo in recent years. 3D printing and CAD has re-awakened it. Always mulling ideas in my head now, and then rapid prototyping on the printer.

If you start combining hobbies it gets interesting. Start fiddling with an Arduino, 3d printing and maybe throw in some woodworking and things can start getting interesting.

Just the feeling from printing alone has already started tainting my relationship with my Data Engineering job.
The lack of physicality and feedback just doing data and code related stuff never really bothered me, but it does now.

Luckily not - I haven't had any issues that a filament dryer could not fix and it has been fantastic for functional prints. I'm just a little jealous of what seems to be a machine that requires less effort to get good results. But I could not find a lower risk entry point than the Ender, funded by eBucks.

I've got a current project that combines 3D printing, electronics and coding... MMMMMMEGA DOPAMINE when that eventually lands... lol

My Allosaurus fragilis is done, the yin to my Stegosaur yang print.

Zero defects/print failures on this one and I think my printer downtime while doing all the parts over +- 3 days was probably less than 4 or 5 hours combined, a new personal efficiency record.

I'm considering tackling this one next:

I want my own Diplodocus like the one I've visited twice at the Natural History museum in London (affectionately called Dippy).
Only thing is, this a sauropod, so you can forget to get away with a <= 1 meter long print, it would have to be at least 2 Meters in length so I will probably either have to switch material, or start learning how to use aluminum wire to create supports (likely both).

Got one of these as a first printer while I saw what type of upgraded printer I needed from a practical point of view. Still have the KE since I have not developed the need for multi-filament or more exotic materials yet. Went for a Creality since I had some previous experience in the brand at work.

The only modification I have done is to print some TPU feet for it. The cooling holes underneath are very close to the desk and the feet help with the ventilation. Hopefully improving the cooling helps with longevity. The link for the print called for TPU for vibration damping, but PLA will at least handle the ventilation side of things: https://www.printables.com/model/790031-rubber-feetriser-ender-3-v3-ke-se
