The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) has announced that the development of a programme to halt the importation of substandard goods into South Africa has been put on hold.

It said the decision was taken in collaboration with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC) to allow further consultation and review.

Another cop out by the current regime then, if a 6 month 'notice period' is required by the WTO (which is another organization that shouldn't exist) then issue the proclamation and give them the 6 months to comply. Why put the whole thing on hold. The only answer is money and who is getting it. People are tired of buying cheap rubbish that gets imported from dodgy countries or even manufactured locally. And I am not against China either, I have found that a lot of the plumbing supplies from China mall last a lot longer than similar products being sold at the local hardware store, and that very little lasts as long as it should. Bought a ball valve system at Builders and had to replace the seal a month later, bought another at China Mall that has been working fine for three months so far. Who can you trust now days, the answer seems to be no-one.
