SABC wants to use gamification to get people to pay their TV licences

Unless my definition of Gamification is skewed.

I don't understand how this would help them achieve people to pay for the services on SABC+
Ja nee... It's more towards freemium than gamification... unless you earn badges for watching stuff on the free portion which you can convert into "watch minutes" on the paid portion? lol.

The culture of non payment is why this country is a failed state and that also includes the pirates. Stop pirating. If you enjoy SABC content then you shall pay for it. If not, then don't watch.

Nah, we're a failed state for many reasons, not just the culture of non-payment.

As for paying the SABC, when they produce worthwhile content that interests me, and they aren't a corrupt cesspool, maybe I'll consider paying.

So can someone please explain to me.... how do they get the money to hire all these credit agencies, debt recovery companies and SMS campaign companies to send you all this daily correspondence if they are so broke? It must be costing them millions!

These clowns are clinging to a system that should have died out along with the dinosaurs. There is no need for this type of stuff anymore. Especially not in South-Africa. Youtube, Twitch, Kick, TikTok, Rumble, Dailymotion, Bitchute, Locals, etc. provide more than enough entertainment, and you get to choose what you watch and when you watch it. Best of all no TV required. You can watch all that stuff on your PC or mobile device. And if you're worried about screen size you can get some pretty big PC monitors now. And if you really want you can also go for a streaming service like Netflix or HBO Max or Disney+ or something like that. Nobody wants the garbage the SABC is peddling. They need to get that through their thick skulls. Just get yourself a PC monitor and watch YouTube. It provides countless hours of entertainment.

Those companies paid them something like 5c per Rand for the database, then send out the SMS and call centers, which they use during low activity campaigns to call with, and for the SMS they do not pay the regular rate, but a bulk rate of less than 14c for, and then the recovery rate, even if it is 5% that are scared into paying. Most likely all old gogos who are already in a home, and thus actually do not need a license anyway. so this covers the cost of the database. Then the SABC sells the same database again the next month to another set of debt recovery agents. They call the same senile gogos again, and get the same payments, and this carries on, with each company paying again for the same database, making some money each round. In the end the SABC got a tiny amount, and that the only ones making money are the call center operatives being paid a salary, pitiful that it is, and the cell companies getting money for nothing, as SMS costs are literally zero cost to them, it is already marked out in the cell packet structure, and if it is not used to carry a message that instant, it is merely filled with padding, and is transmitted anyway.
