New tax for everyone who owns a car in South African on the cards

I wonder whether this is part of their planning for the R14/L price they've been bandying about.

Fvck off.

I pay for insurance. Make it so that renewing your annual car license requires proof of insurance. No insurance, no license. Catch unlicensed and uninsured vehicles on the road, impound them. If you cause an accident in an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle, straight to jail and what is left of your POS vehicle should be crushed. You should also be personally liable for any claims against you. Can't pay, more jail.

Not necessarily sure about the jail time element (unless you injure/kill someone of course), but yeah no insurance no vehicle license.

Perhaps a bit excessive, but I'm tired of being pounded in the arse for being a responsible, law abiding citizen while shitheads run around contributing nothing while draining everything.

Shitheads will be shitheads. Taking responsibilty for yourself is all that's required. Trying to control everyone else makes you a shithead.

They will probably remove the RAF levy from the fuel saving you a few rand at the pumps, then add a few thousand Rand to the license renewal process to make up for it with a healthy profit margin and tell you with a straight face they they are saving you money. The normal bovine flora the government produces.

Yep, smoke and mirrors. They will find a way to extract the money from those that don't vote for them.

Don't care.

Functional societies are built on law and order and mutual trust, with everyone contributing, pulling their weight and looking out for one another.

South Africa is the state it is in because the above does not apply to the average South African.

Cool. Name one "functional society" according to your definition.

I happen to agree with that statement, but our definitions of "law" are not compatible.

Are you aware of the financial state the RAF is in and what that means to the South African fiscus (taxpayer)? R400 billion in the hole. You want another SAA, Eskom, endless cycle of bailouts because ''muh freedom''.

Insure your car or get the fvck off the road. Don't come and tax me, an already compliant, responsible and law-abiding citizen, more.

Actually it's because of "muh gubment". That you don't recognise it is due to your lifelong conditioning.

Insure your car or get the fvck off the road.

.l..

Compliance is really nothing to be prpud of. It is, in fact, a large part of the problem.

Communists are going to communist.

The right type of law is that you replace the RAF with a mandatory insurance policy that covers X amount, and that by having that mandatory insurance policy the owner and/or driver of that vehicle is released from personal liability.

That does absolutely everything the RAF says it will do, but it will be risk dependent on an individual driver/owner instead of being collectivised. So bad drivers will have to pay more and good drivers will be able to pay less. And it will actually be able to pay out to the victims of road accidents.

Think about what is going on right now, you have good drivers subsidising the behaviour of bad drivers. So ********shocker******** South Africa has bad drivers.

They will keep it there as long as possible and have their new tax.
