'They came with machetes' - deadline looms for migrants to leave South Africa

While I don't agree with any of this stuff going on, I have to admit that I drove quite a lot today and I've only come across maybe a handful of these 60/60 scooters. Traffic is actually so much better just because of that. I didn't even swear once.

Imagine the 60/60 drivers were local. Maybe they wouldnt drive so badly?

its school holidays though, university, private and public all closed.

Amazing how much time these people have. I keep postponing some of my personal errands because I am so busy in work & family and these people seem to have no worries to prance around all day.

The joys of having a third of your workforce unemployed.

You literally have an ''army'' of angry, frustrated people laying around, waiting to be mobilised by populist elements.

cant be they are now employed to march every thrustday until all whites illegal immigrants are gone back to europe.

I'm not saying you're stupid. You're just obsessing over something that, in the grand scheme of things, is a very small percentage of the money being dealt with to the point of almost being entirely irrelevant.

I have provided several potential answers and alternatives throughout our discussion. I'll summarise again for you here:
  • Deal with issues like how municipal employees are hired (more independent oversight assigned probably from a provincial level because right now it's all just party loyalty focused free-for-alls regardless of merit). Should help with the poor budget allocation and general ineptitude.
  • Investigate municipal tenders and use of consultants/private firms to provide municipal services (again, more oversight is needed here, money is being funneled out of the munis through corruption).
  • Beef up enforcement of non-payment of rates etc.
  • Adjust municipal salaries and employee counts to something more reflective of what the muni's budget can handle (you already see pressure being placed on JHB for this at a national budget level).

This is a big one. I have a relative that works for the COJ.

Their department has a Director, a Deputy Director, an Assistant Director and 4 people (one being my relative) doing day-to-day work.

How can a department of 7 people have three directors? Why do you need both an Assistant and a Deputy Director?

That is easily R200-R300k in salaries on 3 directors, if not more. Plus bonuses and car allowances. Now how many other departments are doing this, overloaded with too many chiefs while there are too few grunts doing actual work.

I wonder if his excellency the president is going to make Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Pakistan, Somalia and Nigeria pay for the wall?
I think we should all get behind this idea. It has never been suggested or tried before...oh wait...

South Africans are stupid, but not yet that stupid.

Only a Dictator can make these adjustments.

We have 1 or 2 local ones working over time to do all the deliveries out of the normal 10.

60-60 even delivered my pizza-perfect order. Not sure how that happened but I got my food on time so everything is good.

He who shall not be named drank water, thus drinking water is a decidedly bad idea!

Soon somebody regularly posting his Kallie club meme will be changing it to make it GLM members worshiping that mlungu.

LOL - never had anything wrong stuff with Sixty60.

With woolies, do you then call up and they collect (and adjust invoice) or do you have to go to store and fight the battle ?

I was expecting shortage of drivers tbh. Maybe they are all legal ?
fark me

i remember the 1st few delivieries from ww a few yrs back.
the schit would arrive in a big plastic crate - no plastic bags inside.

driver arrives, looking all pleased with himself.
i'm thinking the big plastic box is some kind of fancy insulated thing.

he comes in, puts the box down on the kitchen floor - and then the big reveal - everything loose in there.
i look at the box.
he looks at me.
i look at him.
then harriet (housekeeper) makes a sweeping arrival.
harriet looks at me.
i look at harriet.
harriet looks at the ww guy.
ww guy looks at me.

harriet to ww guy: "the pantry is over there, you'll see what goes where, call me when you are finished".

harriet looks at me
harriet looks at the box
ww guy looks at harriet
harriet looks at ww guy . . . "you can have something to drink when you are finished".
harriet departs the scene of the crime

ww guy looks at me - "we dont unpack", he says.
harriet re-enters, in battle mode - - "suga wena, take your box and go", she snaps.
ww guy looks at me
i look at him and his box - - "you should probably leave now, either leave your box, or close it and take everything with you".

harriet re-enters, weilding a fly swatter
ww guy looks at me
i look at harriet.
harriet looks at ww guy while tapping her leg with the fly swatter.
ww guy - - "i'll leave the box".

from that day on, ww seem to have found a hidden stash of plastic bags for deliveries

And how many are there that have been suspended on full pay?

Hilarious, you have a style. Do you perhaps have CC camera outside that captured all this looking ? LOL

Reminded me of "Here's looking at you, kid"

Business as usual in Kyalami/Midrand area for 60/60 drivers. I drove out at 3 and came back at 6.15pm. They don't really cause much chaos this side really.
