Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 6

I have been experiencing a whole lot of instability over the past few days. Clearaccess, in Knysna. Connection to international(?) was just down for a bit now, and it has been very unstable for a bit. Not sure if it is our local problems here or something bigger. The attached images were from just a moment ago, and last night. I do, however, see a whole lot of reports for Openserve on Downdetector, so who knows.

HI there, thank you for reaching out, I don't see anything for recently on our monitoring, but the traces from you suggests otherwie, are you able to PM me your account details?

Edit:
it is strange though, nothing on our monitoring anywhere shows this downtime to Uktest from what I have checked, apart from yesterday around 4pm when I mentioned issues on international

I see the 1000/500 Openserve pricing is up, R1699pm compared to the R1509 for 500/250 currently.
Beat me to it haha :)

Yes indeed, we officially have the 1000/500mbps packages available from Tomorrow officially
This would only be available for select areas,. All Openserve customers will see this option, however its subject to availability check with Openserve first. (Map is not updated as yet)
Pricing can be found on our website here https://coolideas.co.za/fibre-packages/

I placed an order on the wrong street number by accident, I haven't moved into the place yet. They completed my order, and I notified them on the ticket of the street number mistake, but now when the order got completed no one seems to respond to my ticket anymore. This is a genuine mistake on my behalf and I want to know how I can rectify it.

HI there, Thank you for reaching out.
No problem at all, I haver shared internally. Our team will be in touch accordingly

@CoolEscalator

Not quite a seamless move to Openserve 1000Mbps for me.

Lost internet at 2pm. Eventually came back over a hour later. Speeds looked good on LAN, a bit unstable but could reach in the 900-930Mbps range on Speedtests someone else got. WiFi not great but will troubleshoot that.

One device did 500Mbps easily on WiFi. Now after the upgrade it does 300Mbps. Restarted but the router just shows the internet is disconnected. No red lights on the ONT though, looks normal even.

Is there a specific numbered port on the ONT and could that have changed now?
What MTU for this new speed?

HI there, thank you for reaching out,
there should be No difference at all when it comes to wireless, as that's related to your internal network, it could be that your wifi shifted to another congested channel and would recommend stating there.
Wireless however is not guaranteed, and you need to atleast have Wifi 6E which supports a wider range of channels typically less congested than Wifi 5

MTU is unchanged, at 1492, the only change would be your speeds (no port changes either)
If you do continue to have issues, I would recommend our support team trying a few things with you though.

Just another question, the 500Mbps package got 530Mbps on LAN, what is 1000Mbps supposed to get now? 1000Mbps or even up to 1030Mbps?

Seen one other user with Openserve 1000Mbps on the forum and his also didn’t exceed 939Mbps

Unfortunately its not the same concept as that No.

You can compare it to 100mbps packages, as it explains the LAN negotion/ and Eathernet Overhead

For example, if using a non-gigabit router, and you are have a 100mbps package, you get around 93/93mbps or 94/94mbps
However once you use a gigabit router , you will get 110/110mbps since we set the rate limits to 110/110

For gigabit packages , we set the rate limit to 1100/1100, so yes you should get above 1gig, however this can only happen if your ONT, router and your Devices are capable of 1Gbps+, thus you mostly would get 930mbps or in that range.

Thus your ONT ,Router and devices needs to support 2.5G at least, in order to achieve that 1100mbps, which unfortunately is not something most FNO's use.

But to clarify further, its a physical ethernet limitation, that is only solved by upgrading to better hardware.
