Communications Minister Solly Malatsi's removal of ad valorem taxes on entry-level smartphones in South Africa has led to a significant increase in their uptake.
This was according to a June report from the GSM Association (GSMA), which stated that removing taxes on entry-level smartphones also removed barriers to ownership.
