South Africans can say goodbye to their green ID books

Following a record year of smart ID production by the Department of Home Affairs in 2025/26, Minister Leon Schreiber has revealed that his department aimed to set a new record in 2026/27.

Schreiber said his department wanted to further increase smart ID production in the current financial year to accelerate the elimination of the green ID book.
