Online posts targeted by new disinformation rules in South Africa

The Electoral Commission (IEC) has published a proposed code of conduct for elections, with new rules aimed at countering disinformation in South Africa’s polls.

A central part of the draft focuses on online platforms because the Commission links them to the spread and amplification of disinformation.

The proposal also requires parties and candidates to keep records of disinformation disseminated by them, for them or on their behalf.
/facepalm

Disinformation is defined as false information published with knowledge of falsity, or without reasonable grounds to believe it is true.
Wonder how the politicians is going to be able to make any promises. Reasonable grounds is they never do what they say.

And of course, the ANC appointed IEC board gets to decide what is and what isn't disinformation.
