Five key findings from the Constitutional Court's Tafelberg judgment

I've also wondered about that, considering how high profile the district six issue was I’d have thought they would have sorted it out long time ago. What is the actual hold up?

It’s such a large plot of prime land that desperately needs to be developed.
I think because of the emotions linked to it. People just have different ideas about what should happen.

Funny thing is... so many other communities were pushed out like this but we even have a successful land claim in Constantia before they decide what to do with District 6.

i'm curious as to how things will pan out.
there is this site, as well as another in greenpoint.
lets assume a total of 600 new housing units between them.
then assume 50% have at least 1 child - this would equate to 300 children in total.

where are all these kids going to attend school ?
local schools are pretty much at capacity - and with all this talk about housing, there has been no mention of any additional school being built.

i do know of the ideal location - the day clinic alongside somerset hospital.
it has numerous small free standing buildings - all derelict - but some fixing up and one has the ideal environment

And its closer to town. The issue is probably who owns it now... most likely the WC health dept.

There are all these good options but several layers of politics in the way.

There are so many sites like this in Cape Town... but at the same time so many new contruction sites.

indeed - but also a w/c gov run dept, and under their authority
the current hospital and day clinic occupy massive grounds

That's not even including the old nurses res next door which is now occupied illigally.

You can't even blame the people for occupying it, it was abandoned for years.

for those who dont know the area - the "nurses accommodation" alongside the hospital

in all, an obscene amount of land owned by w/c health dept

Its supposed to be for Nurses and Doctors so tha that they can live close to the hospital. I suppose its good that its at least being used.

I know the city just sold off 50 sites around Cape Town, there was a big fuss about 1 of them but not much about the others...

I will

Because the problems we are facing here can at least be solved. The DA has given the WC some options.

We have shown one hijacked building in CT, but in JHB the entire city has been hijacked.
FF+ FTW. DA needs to get taken down a peg. They getting too arrogant.

Seems like this issue was created by the extra and unnecessary conditions in the sales agreement, which I would agree with the court it should be declared unconstitutional. Just in the other direction. The new owners should have more freedom to develop as they see fit.

absolutely - long abandoned buildings will get occupied by ppl needing some form of shelter - city is to blame

I wonder why the national government would not rather give up Wingfield, much better location for poor people to travel to Epping, Milnerton, C-City for job opportunities than been stuck in Sea Point.

Look at this eye sore next the V&A.
