Vodacom Contract, Buy out

Good day,

Does anyone know if this is possible. I have a Vodacom contract that is due from upgrade next year, I need a new phone now but dont want to drop alot of cash now. My thinking was to pay off the contract and then upgrade, is this possible. When I ask in stores they look at me as if I am from another planet.

and advice is appreciated.

you dont want to drop a lot of cash but you have enough to pay the contract?
So roughly you need to pay the remainder of the months of your contract and the remainder of your hand set fee
lets say its only 10 month you paying 600 a month (assuming 50/50 hand set contract) thats R6000 (they may discount a little on the contract price but not the hand set fee) but you paying to pay off the phone an the remainder of the contract, you will lose out on minutes air time etc so 3k for nothing,
then after this you want to go and take out a new contract again

I would also look at you like you are from another planet.
go spend 6K on a low / mid range phone

get a quote to cancel the existing contract - that should convince you that this is a bad idea
 
You can do a premature cancellation. I believe individual customers normally gets a 30% discount on the remainder subscription charge, but not on the handset installment fee.

HOWEVER......this will change you from contract to prepaid. You can change from prepaid back to contract again, but I believe there is either a 3 or 6 month waiting period before you can do this.

So in short, this is not really a viable option.

You can take out another contract with a small package though. This will have its own cell number and will be billed on the same account, but separate invoice every month.
 
From experience I would not try this.
Even if they do process it, you pay your balance and get your upgrade, chances are that someone will fusk something up in the process and you will be fighting this for six months being passed from "service agent" to service agent who has no clue or power to do anything.

It is best to divorce yourself from these contracts as much as possible unless it is absolutely necessary and if so, do not do anything other than the standard "happy path".

Maybe I should have said that I want to finance a phone, my son has a very low end phone that is on its last legs, I dont want to spend 20k on a phone but can afford a monthly premium to pay one off.

check with you bank like fnb and standardbank have options to buy phones over a certain amout of months.
or take out a new contract for you son (top up contract so he cant go over) and maybe he can pay a portion of the monthly from his allowance or part time job etc
trying to buy out your current contract will be a pretty penny now plus you still have to wait
