Looking for the best way to get to the stadium for the Springbok/England game and came across this shuttle service advertised leaving from Eastgate - advertised as free, which makes you go hmmmmm.
Anyway, they had an online sign-up form, so filled it out, received email confirmation.
On the day arrived at Eastgate just after 2pm - received a wristband, went to buy a coffee, came back, walked straight into a waiting taxi, no queues or waiting, just efficient taxi after taxi arriving to fill up - arrived quite quickly at the stadium - they had a designated waiting area at a smaller adjacent stadium - watched the game, we won, yay.
Anyway, I was wondering if the taxis would be there and on time at the end of the game, and have enough taxis because everyone leaves the game at the same time, but everything was there, taxis waiting, again no queue, just hop into the first available taxi, filled in about 10 seconds and off you go.
On the route, btw, they had taxi marshals at various traffic lights on foot and in their patrol cars, making sure everything was smooth.
By far the easiest and most efficient mode of transport I have had going to a stadium - and the fact that is was a free service was mind blowing.
I'm not sure if this is a common service for games, or if this was a test pilot for future transport options, but it was incredibly efficient and smooth - thank you to everyone who arranged this.
And yeah, they must have told them to drive properly, because we stopped at all red lights
