Government working on a new tax for South African motorists

Minister in the Department of Transport, Barbara Creecy, has confirmed that her department is working on a new funding model for the Road Accident Fund (RAF).

Currently, the fund, which provides cover to all road users in South Africa, is funded through a R2.18 per litre levy added to the pump prices of petrol and diesel.

RAF is not the problem.

Its the people that pay nothing that are the problem.

One taxi accident and 14 non payers are at the RAF the next day.

The system will never be sustainable at that rate.

Oh sorry its collapsed already.

RAF is the problem, it doesn't cover what it should, the actual accident. The medical side should be covered by the governmental hospital and mandatory third party the rest.

Why are we paying for other peoples accidents/injuries?
