Load-shedding has not ended in South Africa

As Eskom and the South African government have celebrated a stable power grid, the reality has been very different for the country's working class.

Luke Sinwell, an associate professor in the University of Johannesburg's Sociology Department, said many residents have experienced continued load-shedding through regular, targeted power cuts.

Let's cut power to those who can and do pay instead. Let them go off grid so we end up supplying power only to those who can't or won't pay for the power.

FBE 50kWh currently, plan to increase to 150kWh and calls to make it 350kWh.

Planned way to solve load reduction is to give more free electricity to more people. The numbers being thrown around would basically cover a normal households total energy bill, certainly would cover what I am using and paying for. Now guess who would be paying for it, the ratepayers as Eskom bills the municipality and taxpayer where Eskom supplies directly.

Installing smart meters. What a laugh. When there is a drive to remove illegal connection the teams is intimidated, assaulted and chased away. Install a smart meter which can detect bypassing and it would once again be bypassed with no way to enforce disconnects.

Eskom is going claim incredible success and pay out bonuses to management while not solving anything.
Eskom is just renaming theft to tax payer supported.

PS if I see "Sociology XXX" then I know an attempt to fleece me is in the works.

Yes, city Power is absolutely useless, neighbours have had no power for 63 hours now. But it is not load shedding, as it's not the entire grid being managed and brought down to ensure we don't have black starts.

Nope, it would need to be a gradual build up of power stations, there is no way we can do a black start without taking at least two weeks of blackout.

Don't think Cuba have any experts left. They’ve lost 30% of their population due to the mass exodus in the last few years running away from communism.

A lot of outages are related to cable theft or the municipality not having funds to replace faulty cables. In my area there was no power for three days last week and again since last night. Every month there are issues with the same cable.

The brainiac prof was talking about load reduction where the poor people suffer because they can't afford leccy so they connect illegally which causes transformer to overload so eskom has to shut it down for 12 hours a day to avoid it exploding.
