Eskom beats its own targets

Eskom's progress in its efforts to end load reduction, which has already freed 1.1 million customers from the power cuts, has far exceeded expectations.

Responding to parliamentary questions, electricity minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said load reduction would be eliminated in the North West by the end of July 2026 and in the Eastern Cape by late August.

When your standards are so low you hit the target every time.

So how do you stop them using more than their allotment.

Eskom isn’t playing these days. In the villages (MP) where my parents live, they’re penalizing households that bridge connections by cutting supply and installing smart meters.

In Tembisa, when a transformer fails they disconnect the whole area. Eskom told the community where my friend is they must prove they’re willing to change by contributing a small fee each household. Only then are they placed on a waiting list for a new transformer and until the smart meter rollout reaches them.

That rollout has now reached their area, so they should finally get power back within the next month. They've been without power since late last year. Daveyton same story, when an issue arises, they check the whole street for non payers first before responding.

How do they afford R4/kWh?

Its a horrible situation for everyone. Poverty brought on by the anc. Tell them to vote for a different party. It cannot get worse, well unless you leave them in charge. You get what you vote for. Systemic, planned poverty of their voters

As long as they don’t vote eff or MK.

Does the smart meter really help since there is nothing to stop you from bridging the meter again ?

They are 4g connected so usage gets reported back to them, so your spend vs usage will need to correlate. Also it reports back to HQ when you open it up, they have a cover switch.

"Tell them" meaning?
