Disney Plus is so terrible I'm shocked

I'm guessing you're watching on an "adult" account. Disney+ goes to next episode on adult accounts, but on kids accounts it only plays one episode at a time.

There's also no setting to change this.

I don't really understand the logic.
Yeah I am. The option is just gone. I think they removed it because even their support website also removed the pages guiding you to do this.
The page is indexed by Google search but leads to a 404.

I decided to pay so my child could watch some Disney stuff. I'm beyond annoyed. It's unusable.
4K is locked behind TVs for some weird reason.
There's no PiP.
There's no autoplay next episode.

This one shocked me. After each episode, the thing goes back TO THE PROFILE SELECTION SCREEN.
The streaming service has ZERO QOL features.

I aggressively limit screen time and having a TV sit there really makes it hard. A computer can be out of sight, out of mind while we focus on other playtime routines.
You could just limit the usage of the TV to family time or something like that. Remember overly restrictive could lead to them over indulging later on. So you could setup things to make it healthier rather then make it seem like forbidden fruit.

I'm pretty sure we get the crappy Hotstar version of the app which is a different app to the one used in the US and other markets.

When Disney+ released here I remember I subscribed as it was a good deal, then immediately cancelled and asked for my money back when I saw how bad the app was.

App has uhmm partially improved...

Slight correction, that isn't how it works. My phone can play 4K from YouTube and whenever Netflix decides to let me watch in 4K.
My MacBook also is 4K.

My guess is they punish people on computers because they think we're all bloody filthy pirates. Ironic because this treatment makes you want to pirate anyway.

yes but you can't actually see 4K on your phone. Even just 1080p is just slightly improved from 720p on a phone.

I checked on my phone now and Youtube only has "higher resolution" as an option for premium. They don't even call it 4k on the phone.

The browser experience will always be deminished unfortunately.

Odd you'd want to play 4k on screens that aren't 4k

4K depends on the video. It must also go up to 4K. I've added screenshots from YouTube for you to see.

Also, my eyes can tell. I'm not special at all but people can see this stuff. Watching DStv stream really bugs me because it says I'm watching FIFA in HD but the encoding is all weird, like it's low quality. It's either the feed is bad or DStv does aggressive compression to save bandwidth.

No my devices all are 4K capable. I already posted screenshots here of my phone playing 4K on YouTube. Hence me not liking it that Disney sells the package as 4K streaming but only if you have a TV.
It'd make sense for me if it was Apple limiting 4K to their Apple TV thing. They'd be saying buy that Apple thing for the best experience. Bad for customer but understandable on the business side.
For Disney, it just seems arbitrary because reasons.

It's not. The only Android smartphone with a 4k display is/was Sony. The added battery drain to run more pixels makes it a non starter. Youtube might show 4k and you'll get higher fidelity but it's not true 4k.

You appear to have made my argument for me. That a device can be 4K capable and play 4K content, which gives higher fidelity even if the actual screen is not 2160p.
The fact that you can tell the fidelity is higher even after down sampling. I'm paying for the thing. Let me use the thing.
