Luxury cars of fake crypto and forex traders seized in Cape Town crackdown

The mayor of Cape Town and DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis joined Cape Town metro police in a crackdown on luxury vehicles without registration, allegedly owned by fake crypto and forex traders.

In a recent crackdown, Hill-Lewis said a brand-new silver Mercedes-AMG GLE was impounded after authorities discovered it was registered as a white BMW.

Good, scumbags that have no respect for South African laws, deport them as well please.
Whenever I see Nigerians flaunting wealth in South Africa it’s sadly safe to assume one thing and it’s not that the wealth was legally obtained.

“In Cape Town, you will often find ‘crypto’ and ‘forex’ traders driving fancy cars with fake registrations or none at all,” said Hill-Lewis.

“Tonight, we impounded cars in Parklands without valid registrations. In one case, a brand-new silver Merc GLE was registered as a white BMW. Impounded for further criminal investigation.”

"South Africa is also a hotbed for scammers and fraudsters who use cryptocurrencies or forex either as lures to defraud victims or to hide other illicit dealings.
A March report titled “A world of deceit, Mapping the landscape of the global scam centre phenomenon” showed that scammers, many from Nigeria, were conducting operations in South Africa."
They trade in drugs...not crypto. Parklands is full of drug lords.

Just call them common thieves and be done with it?
they're worse than common thieves though, this is organised crime, it's the Nigerian "mafia" actually

would love to know how they obtain these cars and do the fake registration bits without car dealerships and SAPS both turning a blind eye ... impounding cars is a drop in the ocean, the drug lords driving them and the corrupt private and public figures who helped them should all be prosecuted for more serious crimes

If you want to see high end cars take a drive through the new Sandown area down around the Parklands College private school area.

Took a drive there Sunday, to see how quickly the area is developing/ mushrooming.

Lamborghini, G Wagon, Porsche outside one of the houses, around the corner another G Wagon, Merc Suvs, etc.

Crazy. Allover the place. Have seen Bugatti , and whatever else. Saw some Ferrari as well Sunday, coming past me down Tryall Road.

never understand why they dont do these blitzes more often,
or is it the criminals pay the police good money to look the other way

I remember back in the East Rand in Deadfordview, seeing all the expensive cars and the Nigerians /Triads driving them.

And you’re playing right into their hands with that rhetoric. They want to be “bad” and you’re validating them.
no point in treating organised crime like petty theft, SAPS has to acknowledge the scale of the problem first before they have any hope in hell of tackling it

if they get treated as minor criminals the problem will never get solved

yup ... even a few chrome wrapped super cars in the area, it's like they're shouting at max volume to SAPS: come get me! ... but no
