Old issue this, it'll never get better with morons on charge.

Best to just never use any extension with anything you know is going to pull over 500-1000Watts for a period of time, especially if you're not going to be around. I ran an aircoin on my 1st floor using a multi plug, not the best idea, even a decent one is a risk.

This just needs to be drilled in people's heads from a young age.

Naah, China isn't the problem, greed is.

They make what manufacturers ask them to make for the price they're willing to pay, and shocker, we've been creeping towards maximum profits for lower standard for decades.

Consumers are also partly to blame, they want everything for almost nothing. Put a decent quality product on the market and you're f**ed 'cause no-one's going to buy it if they can get cheap short-term satisfaction from disposable crap.

China will build you a bloody world class space station if you're willing to pay for it.

Or make your own, you can get all the necessary bits from a decent electrical supplier

Or just make 'em yourself.

Pretty much most of them in brick stores too, is as safe as a condom on a teenage boy.

Don't know why they pick on online stores.

If the anc can put up signs warning of high crime rate area or potholes they can get MYBB to warn us about bad imports being sold.

Let me correct you a little bit here.

China will make you something all right... but you have no full clue of what corners they cut. Remember, they employ people in sweatshops and pay them in bowls of rice. It's not pretty and also not conducive to quality.

They will put fake semiconductors on your board and you will have no idea. They will use thinner than specified copper wires- they LOVE that in particular.

Consumers in SA are stingey with certain things. If its an item that boosts their e-peen and status and ego, they'll go up to their eyeballs in debt for it... otherwise not.

Corporate greed in SA is a factor yes, but not as much as you think

Nonsense.

Ever heard of a detailed spec sheet supplied by you?

if you order off the shelf OEM, because of your small bulk order, and just slap some name on top, then sure, you get what you need to rape the SA customer for a big profit. The greed is with the buyer looking for a price to fck his customers over.

You want silly cheap, they give you cheap crap. There are many China born premuim brands that is popular the world all over. What does that tell you?

PS Audio's R850 000 FR30 speakers are made in China, fully assembled

This is bulls**t and anyone who still believes it has been sucking on the teet of western propaganda that loves to use isolated instances to paint the cope picture they want.

Dunno, some pretty bad reports coming out of rural China still...

I really think we have a standards enforcement problem in this country when it comes around electrical wiring and connectors and plugs.

I have renovated my house in 2014. Of the new plug points I already had to replace 3. The last one was the dishwasher's plug. It was completely dry, no moisture ingress and no constant mechical changes - I plugged it in once and then boom it just failed.

The plug points that was installed when the house was build 40 years ago has no problems.

I guess we are going to miss Ellies.

Cheap extension cables from online stores in South Africa melting and catching fire

Cheaper electrical extension cords in South Africa that use aluminium wiring instead of copper to reduce costs also have a reduced ability to safely carry higher electrical loads.

These substandard cords are most often sold from online stores and have now been highlighted as a serious fire risk in the country.

Why don't you chaps try running some good news stories for a change?

All these warnings, and gloom-and-doom this, and dark-days-ahead that, are pretty much avoided by me these days.
