Not that interesting as this isn’t a new fact, it has been the case for ages, mainly because virtually every Muslim boy is named with some form of Muhammad and for the statistics every variation of the spelling is lumped together iirc.

Wrong. They don't lump variations together, that would be silly and pointless. Muhammad is the specific name in the #1 spot. Mohammed is ranked #20 on the list. Mohammad is #55.

That's from the official ONS.gov website.

Muhammad was also in the #1 spot the year before. Mohammed jumped 1 spot on the list but Mohammad dropped 2 spots.

Muslim families choose the first name from a smaller pool of names with Muhammad being the most popular and Mohammad the 2nd most popular.

So if you have 10 Muslim male babies changes are a lot of them will have the first name Muhammad. On the other hand 10 non Muslim male babies will have 10 different names.

This doesn't mean Muslims outnumber non Muslims.

Yes, I agree with you. I think the outrage is a bit stupid. If you take that list, out of let's say 100000 baby boys born in England and Wales, only something like 9000 had traditional Muslim names. The rest were all European or whatever names.

People seem to think that because Muhammad is #1 that must mean most babies born are muslim which is false. They'e not getting that not all white British babies are named Noah lol (which has been the 2nd most popular name there for a while now).

Police are investigating donations worth £500,000 made to Reform UK by the mother of a convicted fraudster and ally of Nigel Farage.

The investigation concerns two donations of £250,000 made by Fiona Cottrell, whose son George has often accompanied Farage to Reform events and media appearances. The May 2024 donations are under investigation over whether they were intended to conceal a donation by an impermissible donor.

Two people had been interviewed under caution in relation to the May 2024 donations, the Metropolitan police said in a statement on Thursday night, adding that the investigation was launched in February 2025 after a referral by the Electoral Commission. No arrests have been made.

The donations appear to be separate to a deposit of about £1m that Fiona Cottrell made in June 2024 to a company run by Richard Tice, Reform’s deputy leader. This week, the Guardian revealed that the transfer to Tice’s company, Britain Means Business, was reported to the National Crime Agency by bankers.

According to financial industry sources, bankers and the NCA have been unable to trace the origin of £1m given to Britain Means Business, £500,000 of which was moved into Reform’s coffers weeks in advance of the general election.
