2027 Slate Truck First Look: The $27,000 Pickup Ready for DIY Dreams

This is how much the Slate Truck will cost

Slate Auto, which counts Amazon's Jeff Bezos and Google's former CEO Eric Schmidt among its main investors, has announced the pricing of its upcoming Slate Truck.

It will start at $24,950, excluding taxes, title, license, registration, governmental fees, destination charges, documentation fees, and any optional equipment.

You can pre-order one from the official website by locking in your delivery window for a $300 non-refundable payment (that will be deducted from your order if you go through with it). When that delivery window gets close, the company will reach out to you to finalize the order.

These delivery windows are promised to open in "late 2026", which is also when deliveries should start. That's probably when we'll finally get a full list of specs and options. In the meantime, Slate is billing this as "the most affordable truck in America".

Underpromise, overdeliver? Hands-on with the $24,950 Slate auto- Ars Technica

It has 205 miles of bare-bones range.

Slate Auto has pulled a Disneyland. Let me explain.

At Disneyland, if a sign for a ride says the wait is 45 minutes, it’s actually less than that. The idea is to set expectations low and then exceed them.

Slate originally said its electric truck’s entry-level battery would have 180 miles (290 km) of range, but that has expanded to 205 miles (330 km). The tow rating was originally 1,000 lbs (454 kg); now it’s 2,000 lbs (907 kg), a nice jump. Finally, the load rating was 1,400 lbs (635 kg), and it’s now 1,550 lbs (703 kg).

The automotive startup has exceeded expectations. Was it part of the plan all along? Was leaking the price of the base model of $24,950 last week guerrilla marketing? Since the truck’s unveiling a year ago, Slate’s marketing has been extremely tongue-in-cheek.

At the Slate launch event in Gardena, California, new CEO Peter Faricy told the assembled press that “Slate is so much more than an affordable truck.”

Inside Slate Auto’s EV Facility | Tour with CEO & Lead Engineer

We had exclusive access to Slate Auto’s beta EV factory in Michigan, where we toured the facility and spoke directly with the team behind the vehicle.

In this video, we sit down with Slate Auto CEO Chris Barman and Head Engineer Eric Keipper to discuss how Slate is building affordable, reliable, and highly customizable electric vehicles.

We also explore how Munro’s engineering insights influenced key design and manufacturing decisions along the way.

Slate Revealed the Price. Here's How Munro Helped - Munro Live

Slate has officially revealed the pricing and specifications for its highly anticipated electric pickup, and Munro Live was on the ground in Los Angeles to cover every major announcement.

What makes this story especially meaningful for us is that Slate has been a Munro customer since the very beginning. We've had the opportunity to work alongside the Slate team throughout the vehicle's development, giving us a unique perspective on the engineering, manufacturing, and design decisions that shaped the truck from concept to production.

In this video, we break down the biggest announcements, share our firsthand impressions from the event, and provide insights you won't find anywhere else thanks to our longstanding relationship with the Slate team.

With Slate × Crayola, customization meets creativity. Because you should be able to make something that feels just like you. And growing up is optional.

Since 1903, Crayola has celebrated colorful self-expression and hands-on creativity. Give people the tools, and they’ll surprise you. We couldn’t agree more.

Slate Partners with... Crayola? - Autoweek

Affordable electric truck maker to offer wraps of its EV in genuine Crayola colors.

Everybody needs a gimmick in today’s tough truck market. Slate already had one: the cheapest EV on the market, by far. Two weeks ago Slate announced that pricing for a bare-bones (aka Blank Slate) electric pickup truck would start at $24,950, minus destination. That’s already a pretty good draw.

But now Slate has pulled another rabbit out of its hat, or in this case crayon out of its box, with the announcement that the e-Truck maker has partnered with iconic crayon brand Crayola to color the wraps that bring its truck bodies alive.

“Two iconic brands are coming together to enable Slate drivers to make their mark with a Crayola color. Today, we’re announcing a collaboration with Crayola on vehicle wraps and accessories to bring five classic colors to Slate Trucks: Cerulean, Fern, Jersey Tomato, Razzmatazz, and Dandelion.”

Will it work? We’ll find out when Slate starts deliveries of trucks in Q4 of this year. We’ll take Jersey Tomato, please.
