Good luck cancelling your SABC TV licence

It's clearly designed to make it a non-viable option. You're contributing even more to the SABC if you go the "remove the tuner" option.

Only viable option to not contribute is do your best to make sure you never have a TV license in the first place.
I've never had a TV license so am all good. Luckily I had a friend that did have one though.

I tried canceling 10 years ago and they lied to me. So all their methods of contacting me no longer works and ill flee the country if I have to but I will never give those thieves that stole our money more. Why would I ever give thieves money? Our thieving government needs a head check

I can't remember the last time I even got an email from anyone related to TV licensing so cancelling seems pretty easy to me.

Amazing how the country unites against this R30 odd ronds per month tax like our lives depend on it lol.
Or you just pay R265 a year. Who cares? It's worth it for the radio stations.

It's a principled stand for many.
There's little we can challenge, this is one of those abuses we can and with good reason - here's a few mismanagement headlines from the last couple of years to remind you guys why;

My favourite - "SABC faces major financial crisis as TV license payments remain low" - BS in spades! TV licenses made up just a fraction of their income back in the day.

And here's some political interference links, the crux of the matter...

And some of what they're claiming too ;- )

Editorial: The SABC's editorial independence is not negotiable

I’d rather pay it since I use it occasionally.

Removing the tuner allows the person to get off paying the TV license for the current licensing period - so one year if it is done at the beginning of the period. The application to do this is R300 rand, more than the cost of the license for that year. https://www.tvlic.co.za/tvlic/faqs/

On top of that there are no inspectors so you pay the R300 on top of the license fees for nothing.

This is exactly what I did - paid someone, got the letter from them, tried to cancel the license - was flat out ignored by email, fax, etc. (kept it all though, and my initial interaction with the attorneys who said it would be handled after I sent them the "proof", but always came back a few months later)

A couple of years ago our house was hit with a power surge, insurance replaced a couple of things, but insisted the TV be repaired instead of replaced - I noticed with the subsequent repair - the tuner was back and functioning. I mean, who doesn't want analog tv.
