Why is macOS so unbelievably backwards? Why can't I simply remove or hide the finder icon in the dock at the OS level? What is this kiddie proof nanny state design? It's absurd that something so basic isn't under the user's control.

Finder is integral to using a Mac. Are you even using a Mac if you haven't used the Finder at least 10 times a day? Its what shows search results, spotlight results, recent apps, access etc etc.

As Speedster says, what is your use case to remove it?

Finder is trash...

The fact that disc encryption and system integrity encryption and a host of other security features depend on it?

Why not take the dock out and add a Start Menu? Not going to say Finder is the greatest file explorer, just make peace with it and add your favourite app right next to it.

Help me understand why it's so important to remove the finder icon?

Help me understand why Apple's brilliant developers still can't add a simple option to hide the Finder icon in the Dock. I mean, it can be done with any other icon.

What does the Finder icon being permanently stuck in the Dock have to do with Finder being an integral part of macOS? They're completely unrelated. I use bloom. So the icon there is wasted space.

Finder is trash...

Exactly.

.

I'm not a developer, I have no idea. But it's one small icon in a list of app icons. Just move it to the end (or middle) of the row and ignore it.
