Herotel providing connectivity for the Absa Cape Epic for the next three years

Herotel will build a new network almost everyday for the Tour de France of mountain biking

South African fibre network operator (FNO) and the country's largest fibre-to-the-home Internet Service Provider, Herotel, has partnered with the Absa Cape Epic to provide connectivity during the race event.

Herotel signed an initial three-year agreement as the Absa Cape Epic's official technology partner, and it will provide connectivity to meet the needs of riders, emergency services, media, and commissaries.

I read or heard somewhere that Herotell is partnering with Amazon Leo (Amazons version of Starlink) in the near future. I wonder if this will be used as a trail of entry into the low earth orbit space

South African Internet giant launching Amazon Leo

Residential and business broadband provider Herotel will distribute the Amazon Leo satellite Internet service in South Africa from 2027.

Herotel confirmed it was appointed as the first authorised Amazon Leo distributor in South Africa on Wednesday, 14 July 2026.

Ag ! Race village WiFi has always been pretty decent, but it’s historically always been provided by NTT/Dimension Data.

Pretty sure it’s going to be worse now - based on my previous experiences dealing with herotel.
