Electricity minister's message about fixing South Africa's economy with electricity network upgrade

Electricity minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has warned that South Africa's grid expansion project won't benefit the economy as intended unless the country advances industrial and skills development.

In his address at the 13th Manufacturing Indaba in Sandton on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, the minister said expanding the grid was only part of the solution to deliver the economic growth the government sought.
