I thought hard water is also bad for the pipes? .. I had to install a softener for my borehole water
It does build up in pipes, but quite slowly. It's a lot worse for things like your geyser element, kettle and other appliances that heat water.

Pick n Pay has a system where you bring your own 5L bottles and fill them up from a large tanker of the same water you get in bottled water. Much cheaper than buying bottled water. Then I also buy fizzy water which I drink a lot.

I live in Durbanville and hit the H2O straight from the faucet. But I grew up in JHB and remember drinking straight from the hosepipe, on those warm days you let the first bit of water through to cool the pipe, then you gooi. I swear that was the most refreshing water ever.

Jhb water been steadily getting worse. You can still drink from the tap but once you pass it through a filter you realize how kuk it was. I use a tabletop filter
