Tips for buying and saving on pre-paid electricity

It makes no difference if you buy 300 and then 50 and then another 300, or whatever.
The price structure is the price structure.
It will cost you x amount for the first tier of units, then xx amount once you pass the cap and hit the second tier, and so on.

It depends on the specific tariff structure you are on and your usage, so check your local municipality for the tariff structure..
Simplified example:
It always runs from the 1st of the month to the 1st..
Tariff 1 - R1 per unit for the first 300 units
Tariff 2 - R2 per unit for the next 200 units
Tariff 3 - R3 per unit for the next 100 unit
This is also typically quoted ex VAT, so take that 15% into consideration too..
You don't ever save anything other than using as little as you can.. Even if you use, based on the above example, only 250 units but buy 300 units, you will have an extra 50 units next Month and not need to buy 250 only 200 but you already paid for those 50 units the previous month.. at most you free up a little bit of cash flow for the next month.. pop that 50 bucks into a savings account and earn R4 interest on it if you want to save a tiny amount on it..

That depends on how much you've already bought so far this month. Your first R1000 gets you 263.97 kWh..
It doesn't matter if you buy it in one go or not. But if you are using around 600kwh in summer time you may just as well buy a little more and have it on hand for winter time + the price will increase again next year so you'll probably save a little bit and have some spare by the time that the price increases agian next year (June / July IIRC).
I've built this mainly for businesses to manage their prepaid electricity, but individuals are more than welcome to use it as well, I am not sure what the banks charge but I am almost certain prepaid electricity through simcloud is cheaper.

It’s not a guarantee, but the fee the banks charge are often time more. For my flat (CoCt) I recharge via SimCloud because it’s cheaper than the fee ABSA charges me for example, but I’m not sure if it’s the same for all municipalities.
The real value there is for businesses who does bulk electricity recharging and scheduled recharging as well as need audit reports and tax invoices.
The system works for individual purchases 100%, but it was designed with businesses in mind to consolidate their spending.

To prevent abuse, had a ton of issues with people scraping it as well, you can DM me your meter and I will check for you quickly. (There is also a list of supported meters an municipalities at the bottom of the page, that can help.)
How does one pay for the units purchased and is there a transaction cost on your side to me? (sorry didn't read all posts)
