Important information about speed limits and when you will get fined in South Africa

The Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) system rolled out to 62 municipalities on 1 July 2026, introducing new fines for exceeding speed limits.

Under the system, motorists have some wiggle room with speed limits. AARTO allows for a 10km/h tolerance before motorists will be penalised for speeding.

hardly a maniac.

Maniac would be doing 160+ according to the AARTO table... anything below that is just a fine, so might be worth it depending on the economic return of getting to a place earlier.
