SA-made series a global hit on Netflix

Streaming giant Netflix has said that South African-made series The Polygamist has been a breakout global success, with over 159 million hours viewed in just under one month.

Since the show debuted on Netflix, The Polygamist has recorded over 16.5 million individual views and is the 58th-most-watched series worldwide since January 2026.

They are doing much better than most streaming services. The share price fell slightly because the net profit and revenue for the 3 months April - June did not increase as much as analysts had predicted:
"Netflix recorded $3.4 billion in net profit between April and June, an increase of more than 9 per cent over the same period a year earlier.

Revenue came in at $12.56 billion, slightly below analyst projections. That represented a 13.4 per cent year-over-year increase -- the lowest growth rate in nearly three years."

Yeah, always nice to see an industry (any industry) doing well at times here. Quite rare these days...

Doesn't mean we've become Sollywood. But some of them will act that way for years now.
