I don't think Engels themselves are known to learn other languages when they migrate to x/y/z countries really.
But yeah, considering de facto global language status of English, it is foolish of migrants not to get conversant with it.

Some of the MPs just move from one sector to another, jeez. Imagine just for once they appoint an actual expert in the field...
Cooper for example, went from Home Secretary, to Foreign Secretary, and now she's the Health Secretary. All of this happened in like 2 years. Madness.

Yeah I get that but I think She wouldn’t be working on her own; there’ll be lots of experts advising her one policy and such. It’s her job to balance that out with government priorities.
Which is different to how SA does it with just friends being appointed who don’t even have proper high school education or the faintest idea on what’s going on.

Personally I don't think she's done a good job at anything. Mahmood is staying on presumably because she's doing a good job and wants to stay. Just cycling the same people into different positions constantly seems counter productive, to me at least.
Streeting again is another confusing appointment, he once quit the Labour party because of the Iraq war, now he's in charge of the defences of the UK? 0 military experience, it's just odd.

While he's a total flop, and having him as foreign secretary is going to be a PR disaster for the UK, we at least won't have him giving our money away to foreign countries for his eco pet projects, or shoving that net-zero crap down our throats. Though, he's now in charge of our foreign aide budget, which is probably even worse.

That happens everywhere unfortunately and is a problem. You also don't get many individuals from STEM fields in politics for various reasons. Thatcher was a rare PM for having graduated with a science-based degree. There's also a particular problem in UK politics where many MPs do a PPE (Politics, Philosophy and Economics) degree at Oxford or Cambridge, get into politics as a special advisor or some other political position and then eventually become an MP - so no 'real-world' experience, so to speak. Also WAY too many lawyers are MPs. Lawyers are VERY good at 'bullshit baffles brains'...
