I'm on a 1000/500 line with Cool Ideas with MetroFibre being the FNO. I have the line because I WFH often, and do a lot of CFD simulations etc. which often leads to large data transfers. I'm not a downloader of any kind, streaming & work.
For the last month, I've really struggled with basic streaming in the evenings. The pattern is remarkably consistent - from around 5pm to 10pm, my line crawls at downloads lower than 20 Mbps.
I've had to do several tests - MTR, direct connections to the ONT, etc. etc. etc. The results are fine outside this window. I've stayed up evenings to test, got up early morning to test.
All the MTR tests reveal issues the moment I hop out of my network, losses 9-15% on each hop during that time window; less than 1% in the early morning / outside the window.
MetroFibre techs have tested the line (physically) and changed out the patch cable etc. No issues seem to be present, but I've gotten almost zero technical details.
I wrote a script to ping cloudflare & google, do a speedtest and MTR - speed test and ping is hourly. The results of the last month is below - a few gaps here and there when I kind of gave up and stopped the scripts.
I don't expect to reach full speed (I don't need it 90% of the time), but I can't keep paying for this if it crawls at night.
Feels like old school throttling, but I'm being assured by Cool Ideas its not the case.
I've plotted the results below. I'm unsure on what to do now. Do I drop to a lower speed? Is my connection being "managed" because its on a larger line? Should I just drop speed? Should I switch ISP?
@PBCool - being helped by a team member, but I'm not convinced its enough.
