I suspect Russia demanded more than was discussed at the Anchorage talks. Rubio appears to hold a firmer line than Witkoff and Kushner who almost bent over backwards to accommodate Russia.

Q: How relevant are Anchorage proposals today?

Rubio: Those proposals failed. You can't have a peace deal unless both sides agree to it, and Ukrainians wouldn't agree to it. That's why that effort didn't work.We'll have to find new suggestions and new ideas, because that one was not acceptable to Ukraine at the time, and I don't think it's acceptable to them now either. In fact, it's probably even less acceptable to them today.So when peace comes, it will be because of some new idea or new concepts, and we're prepared to offer some of those in the right setting and forum, if the opportunity presents itself and the conditions are right. We're prepared to play that role in a positive way.
