The United States enacted its Section 301 tariffs on Friday, 24 July, hitting South Africa after it determined that its enforcement of bans on forced-labour imports was inadequate.

Only partially true: US importers will largely shift to suppliers that don’t have the tax, unless SA exporters can still undercut them. This means SA selling for less, and cutting costs. The only time it wouldn’t matter to SA exporters is if they have a ton of alternative buyers willing to pay the same prices. This is unlikely as it would imply market inefficiency.

Did you actually read the article? The issue is not whether or not we have forced labour in South Africa, it is that we do not do enouht (in the eyes of the USA at least), to prohibit the import of goods produced using unethical labour practices.
