South Africans send message about Post Office plan for a legal monopoly over e-commerce deliveries

Communications Minister Solly Malatsi has revealed that public submissions on extending the Post Office's monopoly over parcels weighing 1kg and less were overwhelmingly opposed to the move.

Responding to Parliamentary questions from ANC MP Oscar Mathafa, the minister detailed the reasons for not extending the Post Office's exclusivity over parcel deliveries under 1kg.

Malatsi said respondents had cited the Post Office’s inability to fulfil the mandate entrusted to it by the government, owing to its operational and financial challenges.

So now what impact does this have on the SAPO rescue strategy?

I thought a core pillar of that strategy was to impose a tax on all courier companies licensing them to delivery packages <1kg while simultaneously adding no value whatsoever?

After having the "Post Office " actually loose important documents that were sent via their "Fast Mail" system, with the special envelopes and all, I would Not trust them with a postage Stamp! They will definitely steal anything of value!!
